In the beginning of each project it is important to conduct research on both what the client wants to see as well as exploring relevant content similar to the product that we hope to create together
After pinning down a style direction with the client, a visual guide was created to embody the look and feel of the final product.
The client wanted to feature her own paintings as well as old photographs beside relevant poems.
I came up with 3 concept suggestions the client chose from and after a discussion we landed on a minimalistic gallery style with simple artwork in a line art style for the cover and a monochromatic color scheme.
The concept for the artwork is rooted in the authors background. The overall theme of the poems is navigating life in a multi-national family and coping with the fact that a piece of who is always far away.
Using the word flowers and road from the title started the idea to create a road of flowers rising up the spine of the book with vines in every direction.
The flowers are a combination of Icelandic and Norwegian wildflowers to symbolize the authors road through the life intertwined in the two countries.
The design for a simple one-page informational website followed the same style guide as the rest of the project.
The purpose of the website is for customers to be able to find information about the author, book and future events. A simple layout with larger text sizes as the content is directed towards an older audience
